Photo Journal: Paradise, Robinson Crusoe Style on Calangaman Island, Philippines

Calangaman island is one of those places that doesn't exist.  Stunning beaches, crystal clear water with excellent snorkeling, and not one inhabitant or hotel.  If you wanted a place to be far away from where ever you are, this would be it.  The only way to get here is on a day trip via a long-tail boat from one of the neighboring islands in the Philippines.  There's really nothing to do on the island, except snorkel and sunburn, but with scenery like this, why would you need to do anything else?

  That sand bar looks magnificent! Low tide? How can you get there? What was the neighboring island?

  I'm not sure if it was low tide or not, but all of the boats there only went during the day.
  
  We got there by hopping on one of the tour boats from Malapascua Island, which is just off the northern tip of Cebu. We were there during high season, too, (Xmas holiday) so you can imagine that there would be even less people there during other times of the year!

  Being from Chicago, I am deeply suspicious of any beach that does not rules posted at its enterance, a least one empty plastic water bottle on the beach, no empty Dorritos bags stting around, no volleyball nets and no speedy bicyclist along a paved path next to the beach.

  Hey Bessie and Kyle! I grew up in Cebu and this is the first time I've heard of this island. I spent most of my childhood summers in one of Malapascua's neighboring island, stunning Bantayan. What a shame! This is my next stop when I go home.
