The Unplanned Future

Feelin' excited
In Phase 1, we did the "Rice and Beans Tour" and took on Mexico, Central and South America. It was a year that brought us from Mexico City to Buenos Aires where we road innumerable chicken buses, climbed active volcanoes, and learned the various local slang for the word "hangover". In Phase 2 (also called the "Teach the Youngins" phase) we went to Korea to teach and replenish the travel coffers. Now, folks, we are almost in Phase 3, the "Yet-To-Be-Named-Southeast-Asia" Phase. That's right. We've been informed that the last day of March will also be our last day of teaching and then we will be free to roam once more.
Feelin' excited

As for what we are going to do, we do have some goals - long gone are the days of aimless wandering. First, we are going to do some more work on our internet business. We'll keep you updated on that. It's suffice to say right now that we've come up with a new revenue model that we're nearly done with completing. Second, we are going to explore yoga. We have had more downs than ups in Korea, but one of the major ups was that Bessie has re-discovered yoga and wants to learn more about it. If the timing is right, she may even sign up for a yoga teacher training so that she is certified to teach yoga anywhere in the world.
If you look closely at what we are doing, we are trying to forge a permanent location-independent life. In the best of all scenarios, Bessie will be teaching yoga at some posh yoga retreats while I continue to reap profits from web sites. Mabye we'll be doing it in Spain, maybe in Bali, maybe in Kyrgyzstan. Such is the uncertainty of our lives. Will we do it? Will we succeed and report to you, our dear readers, from more far-flung places 2-3 years from now?
We hope so. One thing is for sure, though. We are going to try and do it our own way. Success or no, we'll have no regrets about any of it.

you know it! The blog's one of our constants on the road. can't wait for some new adventures!
You guys are my heroes and two of my favorite people on the planet. I miss you both terribly but I so admire what you are doing with your lives. Keep it up and make the world a better place! Love you!
Rock on you two! You have a (not chicken) bus load of admirers all over the world. Life is too short not to enjoy every minute of it. I've heard that Australia is great for back packing and picking up part time gigs along the way. So if your travels take you further south that might be a possiblity.
Thanks Nancy! We'd sort of discredited Australia because Kyle's over 30 and the visas get trickier past that age, but I'm glad you mention it because it could have a lot of options for me for a couple of years yet. :)
Congrats on really making the commitment to stay on the road and find whatever jobs you need to to maintain the lifestyle that you want! I am looking forward to reading about your SEA adventures - it was one of my favorite regions to travel through on my RTW :-) Cheers and best of luck!
Thanks for the encouragement! I was in SE Asia over 5 years ago so it will be nice for me to see how things have or have not changed. I really liked it then, so I'm hoping I'll like it even more now.
Well I must admit I have been wondering for the last month or two what your plans were. I guess I am still wondering but also looking forward to reading your next adventures. It has been so interesting these past two years. Especially your ventures into food. Keep up the good work and be safe.
As our contract's been nearing the end, we've been trying to stay open for what we'll do next so our best opportunity will find us. We've definitely had a lot of dreams and ideas along the way. SE Asia is going to be a great next step!
Sounds wonderful! Glad to hear that the end (or new beginning) is in sight!!! Have fun planning out Phase 3!
Planning? Planning? We don't need no stinking planning!
How exciting. I love SEA, each country has its own amazing aspect. I didn't do any yoga there and I regret it now.
This reminds me that I must check out your posts for Central America as I leave for Mexico at the end of the month.
Ya, we're pretty excited to explore a new part of the world. Let us know if you need any advice for Central America and Mexico!
I would never turn down advice. You may notice a flood of questions on your old posts :)
WOW!
Asian travel sounds ideal. Lots of marvelous things to see although the language barrier might be a problem for those intimate travel experiences off the beaten track that you most enjoy. Everyone has their own point of view and comfort level. I LOVE to "vacation" but I also love to come home. To each his own.
Amen!
One thing is for sure, though. We are going to try and do it our own way. Success or no, we'll have no regrets about any of it.
Cheers to that!!! I agree about living life with no regrets It's too short not to.
The Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia journey would be fun. I think Thailand would be a definite UP for you both (a bit touristy, but a fun variety of things to do & places to see). Would've been a nice place to teach English if it paid better... But now you've got me curious about the "more downs than ups" thing.
We've been really trying to hold off judgment on Korea until we leave. But, there will be a couple of honest reflection posts about our time here in the next couple of weeks.
Yeah yeah! I'm so excited to see what's next for you two!
I can't wait to see it too!! :)
You HAVE to go to Laos and Cambodia if you're going to SEAsia. Angkor Wat is a must in Cambodia. Ha Long Bay is a must in Vietnam. Ko Phi Phi is a must in Thailand. Laos is like stepping back in time! Haven't you always wanted to time travel? Indonesia is also very beautiful if you can stand the constant touts in Bali...
We're going to try to take it easy at first and just let things happen as they come. I've been to Phi Phi and Angkor and would like to show those places to my wife. Indonesia has intrigued both of us for a long time.
Sounds like the best way to approach it. Good luck to both of you and Happy Trails!
sound fucking fantastic (and inspiring). you better keep the blog going!
