Photo Journal: Modern Portraits of Seoul

Let's be honest: Seoul is not one of the most photographable cities in the world.  Over the years, it's been subject to burnings and pillagings from the surrounding countries so there is not much left from a historical perspective.  After the Korean War, the economy grew at such a fast pace that construction had a hard time keeping up.  So, what you end up with are rows and rows of rectangular and highly practical buildings, which aren't the most aestetically pleasing things in the world.  However, with the right eye, you can find some interesting visuals in the city.

Everyone loves a good factory sunset.

  The Seoul is a modern city of Southern Korea with so much fast paced and vibrant city life. It is popular for abundance of modern architecture and huge buildings. Every building has a unique and stylish design and structure and it is becoming so famous in the city to have wonderful and artistic design and architecture.

  After living in Chicago, I must say that my opinion may be skewed, as Chicago has some of the best architecture in the world. There are a number of stylish buildings popping up here and there in the city, but a large percentage of them are still quite uniform and dull, in my opinion. Like I mentioned in the post, this mostly has to do with history rather than a lack of artistry of the Korean people.

  I was very struck by these, especially the last 4; they kind of take something from the beehive/ant city world. Hope there is some nice countryside to balance out this concrete jungle?

  Ya, there are some nice mountain regions in the center-east area of the country which are quite dramatic. Unfortunately, though, most of the cities look like this.
