First Jesus, then K-Pop

Feelin' confused

One of the small joys that I get in my day is reading students' diaries.  I'm always amazed by the inner workings of a kid's mind.  For example, yesterday, I read a diary entry that was about this student's role model.  Here is the paraphrased excerpt:

"I need to choose a role model.  So, I will choose Jesus.  But Jesus is not a person.  So, I will choose Park Bom from the group 2NE1"

2NE1

For those of you not in the loop with Korean Pop music (K-Pop), above is a picture of the group 2NE1, which can be pronounced "Twenty One" or "To Any One".  They are one of the many girl/boy band pop groups that dominate the Korean music scene.

I have no idea how she made the logical leap in her head from Jesus to 2NE1.  I would think maybe the order would go Jesus, then Parents, then 2NE1, but apparently 2NE1 moved right up there next to Jesus in the role model hierarchy.

And why not?  In terms of philisophical texts, they're pretty equal.

Jesus said "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."  2NE1 said "You better get yours cause I'm gettin' mine."

Jesus said "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
2NE1 said "I don't care."

Same thing.

Ya. Either it's an artistic statement or it's just plain dumb. I'm going with the latter.

Interesting blend of languages in the music video! Nice happy sound of teenaged angst...

Yeah, it's amazing how much English is blended in over here, especially in pop music. It has a "hip" element to it I guess.

Korean pop is incredibly popular here and there's not a lot of competition. It's throughout a lot of Asia too. In the Philippines we met little kids singing the Korean songs and we could all sing along.
