Date night at Rachel's House in Beomgye, Korea

Date nights are always a great thing, and I think we found 2 new favorite spots to go.

1. Rachel's House

When entering, you're greeted by two great big teddy bears. You sit down and everythings super cozy with "paned" glass windows and planter boxes. The food's not quite as good at eating at our real friend Rachel's house in Chicago, but they're the most delicious hamburgers we think possible in this country. Mine had some spicy salsa on it, and Kyle's, well an egg with yolk pouring out.

2. Fruit Juice Garden Bar... Can More

So we've eyed this place from ground level for a few weeks, and the mood finally struck to have fruit in a swing. Korean restaurants sometimes take theme room to a whole new level and you find yourself in a leafy, floral-print, swing garden.

You can get anything you want here, so long as it's fruit related & has ice. We ordered strawberry + cereal in a bowl, mainly because the menu was sort of wild, and it looked nice in the picture.

It comes, and it looks fairly delicious, as long as we took the tomato parts out. They apparently take the tomato being fruit here very literally. Underneath the cereal + ice cream was shaved ice & grape flavored syrup. Hellooooo sugar high.

Date night success = wandering into random spots + finding great and mysterious things inside.

July 12, 2009 Bessie: somehow the ice cream was really delicious! No pickle, I think it might have been pineapple.

July 11, 2009 Rose P.: Thanks for sharing these interesting pics. The cereal dish looks quite tempting. Last year in Paris when we had lunch in Montmartre with Linda and Ralph, I ordered a hamburger. I was surprised when it came with the egg on top. I did not like it. Kyle did you like yours?

July 17, 2009 Bessie: I don't know if he'd say he liked it with egg exactly, but it's the best ground beef we've found here, so he'd probably order it again. It's difficult to find burgers the way we're used to in the west, but these were delicious!

July 11, 2009 mumsie: Culinary adventures, eh? Yummy-looking :) [Hmmm. Do you suppose the lecithin in eggs is meant to metabolize the animal fat? LOL] Whooduh figured cute country curtains/window panes behind all the glitzy, garish store signs!

July 11, 2009 DADDIO: I love the Rachel sign "Casual Restaurant" PASTA BURGER WAFFLE! What a hooooot! I wonder if the Fruit Juice Garden Bar can make you wonderful drinks like Jamba Juice here in the states?! Looks like you had a lovely date night together. Keep smiling over there......

July 12, 2009 Bessie: it's funny the things people print on signs in English. Most locals can't read it, but it sure gets us foreigners attention! The juice garden bar place does have pretty good juice - seems to be natural fruit juice, which can be difficult to hunt down in any country! (we went again to another CanMore juice place today!! They're easy to like!

July 13, 2009 Alex: Wait, the second place looks exactly like the one we went to over at Mud Fest...where is the one around here?

July 13, 2009 Kyle: There was one at Mud Fest? Anyway, there is one in Beomgye on the main strip, kinda close to the subway entrance side. Look for the sign that says "Pasta Burger Waffle"

July 17, 2009 Bessie: i think Kyle thought you were talking about the burger place & not the fruit place. It's Can More and it's from the same chain as the one from Mud Fest. It's toward near Boemgye exit 2, on the side of the "strip" as Slang. 2nd floor - look for swing ropes & flowers!

July 13, 2009 Linda: I read your post and immediately thought of our trip to Paris and Rose's introduction to a hamburger, French style. I see in the comments that she already told you about her experience. I'll bet your burger was less expensive than the euro-gouging prices in France! So, did Kyle choose the egg topping and you the salsa or was it just luck of the draw? The ice cream dish was certainly interesting to look at. Remeber Melissa's ice cream with melted jellybeanie thingys that she had in China. Asian seem to have novelty and flair in dessert preparation!

July 17, 2009 Bessie: I don't think Kyle meant to have egg on his burger - he just sort of got lucky with that I guess. ;) Yeah, these shaved ice with toppings seem to be pretty popular in various parts of Asia. They're definitely refreshing!

yeah, the "us" time away from the kids is essential! Can't wait for vacation!!!
