With all of the time away from computers we have had some time to reflect on our site so far and in that reflection we've realized that we have, technically speaking, an assload of amazing photos that we haven't shared. In an effort to stay away from blog posts that essientially say "this place was neat-o!" we've made a habit of only showing photos that fit in with a story we are writing. It makes for good writing, but it does not make for a complete story. So, we're going to take Barney the dinosaur's advice and share with you photos on a particular theme every week.
Our first series comes to you from the largest mountain on Japan's second-largest island. We spent a fog-covered day climbing the smoking volcano to it's peak. While most of the time we were surrounded by a thick layer of fog, we did get some moments of clarity to shoot the scene around us. If it weren't for the numerous Japanese people around us, we might have assumed that we were somewhere in Canada.

Ice and fumaroles

It was July, but there was still a lot of ice

Our view most of the way up

One of the many fumaroles

A "clear" view of another old volcano

Looks like an arctic golf course

The earth, layered like a cake

Reflections

Some local flora

We're silly and adventurous, computer geeks and yoga peeps.

BTW - I love the word 'assload'...as in an assload of pictures...hilarious!
