Hot Magma? Sweet!

We´re not afraid of lava. We´re eXtreme!
Feelin' excited

We hiked an hour+ from the area around Volcán Pacaya (Guatemala) through trees, rocks, and slippery dirt to reach the eXtreme base of Volcàn Pacaya. If you think of it all in terms of risks and dangers, the volcano hasn´t had a decent eruption since 2000, but every so often a tourist gets hurt from doing stupid stuff with the lava like roasting marshmallows (which we actually witnessed. stupids.) or maybe they try to swim or who know.
It was a strange sensation near that massive slow moving mound of lava. It emited ultra hot heat waves that would gush towards us, and that would be followed by a super strong cold wind. All the while it smelled like my Easy Bake Oven. You read that right. Something about the chemical particles emitted from the slowly flowing lava brought me back to those smells from baking brownies in my easy bake oven, circa 1989. Visual:
Now that you have a feel for it, here´s a video:
Comments on "Hot Magma? Sweet!"
I totally threw rocks into the molten lava, and I wish I could so it was totally righteous and explosive like in a movie. I would of felt like a greek goddess making explosions, but alas, the lava just sort of ate my little rock and kept on rollin´.
Just to put in my comment, I have thrown a water bottle (sorry environmentalists) into hot flowing lava on the big island in Hawaii and it started to implode as it melted until it bursts into flames. I must say it was quite awesome to witness.
I know you Tami, otherwise we´d have to judge you and condemn you. I do have to admit though if I had known in advance it was so exciting I might have thrown a bottle in there, and try to enjoy it more than my shame of throwing in a plastic bottle...
Den just forwarded your site to me. Antigua looks very colorful and the lava looks HOT! Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Did you try poking the lava with a stick? Good times...
No, although I do like poking things with a stick. I generally poke the kids on the street with a stick and say "ese es gordo".
I like the shot of the whole mountan with the line of lava flowing across. Thatsa lotta lava!
Ya, it just keeps on coming. It has to run out at some point, right?
WOW EXTREME MUTANT AMERICAN NINJA LAVA HIKERS... JUST ONE WEEK AGO YOU WERE DRIVING A U-HAUL AND SINGING THE CHICAGO SNOW STORM BLUES! MUE BIEN LAVA! DADDIO
Seem eXtreme, Dream Team! Love your side-by-side dynamic duo pic against the layered lava backdrop! Thanks for your narratives and visuals! So much fun for me! DANX! You are Hot!
I want to make a funny comment, but i will just leave it it at "Wow!".
Awesome, your daily adventures start my mundane morning off with a bang!
please, for the love of god, keep posting as much as possible for the next two weeks. i'm in the most boring training ever, and i need extreme posts to keep me awake.
Haaa haaaa! It´s great we can keep you all entertained with our advetures! We´re happy to do it!
We will try, although, I don´t know how extreme language learning is.
You know, "lava" means "wash" in Spanish. I hope you don't get confused and splash some on your face!
I did ask the guide if I could touch it. He laughed at me. I´m glad my spanish is at least good enough to make a dumb joke.
HOT !!! talk about starting with a bang. I'm begining to understand your desire to do this. All I can say is that is awsome..But stay safe we will be staying tuned
Aware of the perils of volcanic activity, Poppa was very intrigued by your lava adventure. And he was also very impressed by your Respect for its magnitude.
yay, our first eXtreme post! i am so excited! and, it's nice to see something that isn't snowy or gray, even if it is on the internet. see, as directed, i am living vicariously through you :)
