Your Typical American Weekend

Feelin' amused

So, if I were to tell you that this past weekend we went to a baseball game on Friday, grabbed some lunch at McDonald's and headed to the lake on Saturday, then spent most of Sunday water skiing on the lake, what location do you think I am in?

A)  Suburbs of Chicago
B)  Minnesota
C)  Kansas City
D)  El Salvador

Well, my friends, oddly enough the answer is D.

To be fair I did leave out some telling information: the baseball game was more of a rec league team where the good guys lost by 20+ runs and the lake is in the center of a volcano.  But still, it was quite the American style weekend.

First, the baseball game.  It was sort of like watching the Bad News Bears, except that movie is under 2 hours; this game lasted 2 and a half hours and featured 7 errors from the losing team.  But hey, baseball is baseball, right?  If you think the team can't get worse, you may be wrong, as yours truly is attempting to join it.  Look forward to future posts on that one...

Second, the lake.  It is called Coatepeque and is spectacularly clean and refreshing, especially after spending the week in San Salvador.  We were able to stay at a house on an island in the middle of the lake, where activities included eating and anything revolving around water.  If you have your nature checklist at home, please check the boxes volcano, lake, and island.  Thank you.

What's the first thing you do when you get to a lake?  Cannonball, of course!

CANNON BALL!!! Lake Coatepeque
Attention everyone, I have a very important announcement to make: CANNONBALL!

Also, for those of you keeping track of Bessie's athletic talents, put a check in the water skiing column.  Not only did she get up on the first attempt, she was able to stay up through a 180 degree turn then wave like a beauty queen as she passed by the dock.  Show off!  (Note: I was doing triple axels and sow cows when I was skiing, but the pictures didn't turn out)

So, there you have it.  We leave the US travel for 100+ days and THEN have the most typical American weekend that we have had in years.  If only we could find a way to get veggie burgers down here...

Don't be shy, tell us "hi"

Keep on having fun whenever you can! You had me smiling as I was reading your post, but your triple axels Really Cracked Me Up! (so unexpected, but SO like you! LOL) And once again, some really beautiful photos!

I'm jealous. It's been so cold here I swear its going to snow on my wedding. I'm glad you're having fun!

Awww! It'll be June - it won't snow. Then again, it is Chicago...

Sounds like a fun weekend and your description of the baseball game could have been at Wrigley Field.......in days of yore! I can happily share the news that the Cubs are currently in first place......at least they were when last I read the sports page. Kerry Woods had managed to stay off the disabled list and has been decent as a relief pitcher. Congrats to Bessie on her water skiing talents. She can always aspire to staring in the Wisconsin Dells Tommy Bartlett Water Show upon her return home. I'm not sure cannonballing will qualify as a marketable talent but with a little promotion with photos....who knows!

We're gonna win the World Series this year - just wait! No more Bad News Bears...

I wish we had a video of me waterskiing - just think of those squirrels but put me in its place.

Hey... From the camera angle of the CANNONBALL photo, Kyle appears to have been shot OUT of the water and about to land on the deck! ... Ah, Waterbessie the white tornado on the ski rope. ... Amazing! ... I guess when you you only weigh 78 pounds you can be great at a lot of things!!! ... :>} ....................... ( just jealous... )

I'm glad to see that you saved up gobs and gobs of money and went on a life-altering journey so that you could have the same experience as if you had just moved out to the suburbs. Though, let me know when the El Salvador Online Fantasy Baseball league starts up, and I might use a later-round pick on you.

If there is a stat for weak grounders or bad looking swings, then you should choose me.

Hey, I thought you were supposed to be roughing it! LOL.

Sometimes the water was rough - that count?

Kyle's canonball is either a perfect """10""" or the east German judge is having a bad day...
Bessie can hydroplane even without a Mercury and bad ABS :) EXCELLENT
I was able to BMX bike a little (1989 style) with an old school BMXer in Mundelein today near a carwash, tons of fun. People say I'm turning 30 (get me the barfbag) but the guy with the ultralight bike and unbreakable wheels was a lot older than me :)

Don't people say that 30 is the new 17??? If you were in El Salvador, Russell would have been sitting on your lap while you were riding that bike.
