Your Typical American Weekend

Written by Kyle about El Salvador. Feelin' amused

So, if I were to tell you that this past weekend we went to a baseball game on Friday, grabbed some lunch at McDonald's and headed to the lake on Saturday, then spent most of Sunday water skiing on the lake, what location do you think I am in?

A)  Suburbs of Chicago
B)  Minnesota
C)  Kansas City
D)  El Salvador

Well, my friends, oddly enough the answer is D.

To be fair I did leave out some telling information: the baseball game was more of a rec league team where the good guys lost by 20+ runs and the lake is in the center of a volcano.  But still, it was quite the American style weekend.

First, the baseball game.  It was sort of like watching the Bad News Bears, except that movie is under 2 hours; this game lasted 2 and a half hours and featured 7 errors from the losing team.  But hey, baseball is baseball, right?  If you think the team can't get worse, you may be wrong, as yours truly is attempting to join it.  Look forward to future posts on that one...

Second, the lake.  It is called Coatepeque and is spectacularly clean and refreshing, especially after spending the week in San Salvador.  We were able to stay at a house on an island in the middle of the lake, where activities included eating and anything revolving around water.  If you have your nature checklist at home, please check the boxes volcano, lake, and island.  Thank you.

What's the first thing you do when you get to a lake?  Cannonball, of course!

CANNON BALL!!! Lake Coatepeque
Attention everyone, I have a very important announcement to make: CANNONBALL!

Also, for those of you keeping track of Bessie's athletic talents, put a check in the water skiing column.  Not only did she get up on the first attempt, she was able to stay up through a 180 degree turn then wave like a beauty queen as she passed by the dock.  Show off!  (Note: I was doing triple axels and sow cows when I was skiing, but the pictures didn't turn out)

So, there you have it.  We leave the US travel for 100+ days and THEN have the most typical American weekend that we have had in years.  If only we could find a way to get veggie burgers down here...
