Feelin' thoughtful
As one wise man once said, "Life goes by pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once and a while you might miss it". As tourists/travelers, we sometimes get focused on seeing sites and doing touristy things, but sometimes forget to see all of the activity that is going on around us. We forget to realize that there are these other people around us that don't have anything to do with the tourist industry and spend all of their days living their lives.

Feelin' thoughtful
Today we stopped being tourists for a little while and sat and watched the people around us carry on with their daily lives. We just staked ourselves out at a cafe and took pictures as all kinds of different people came by on horses, bikes, and on foot. What you see below is a collection of about 2 hours worth of a typical Nicaraguan day in Granada.
The Freedom of a Bicycle

Feelin' happy
To me, there is little that compares to riding a bicycle. There's so much freedom, so much exploration. You can head in any direction that you want. See whatever you want to see. Move past the world quickly, roll slowly by, or stop to take it all in. It's all up to you.

Feelin' happy
Pick the right day, and the sun shines down, warming you. Your body tells you man, "we haven't really used those muscles that much lately," and the effort pumps your blood and puts a smile on your face. As you gain a little more speed, a breeze blows in your face and just barely lifts up the back of your shirt. It feels good to be on a bike today.
Well, at least we were successful at doing nothing

Feelin' normal
We've always been sort of smitten with the idea of being surfers. It always looks so cool from a distance and the thought of a life spent on the beach looking for the next good wave sounds pretty decent to me. Of course, in order to actually surf, one needs to learn how to do it, so we headed to Las Peñitas to try to learn some surfing.Tags: travel philosophy, chillaxing

Some fishing boats in Las Peñitas. The beach is behind the trees.
Quetzaltrekker 2-Day Death Hike

Quetzaltrekkers is a super rad non-prof organization in Nicaragua (and Guatemala) that lead hikes to area volcanoes and attractions. It's all volunteer run, so hike costs pay for essential food and water, and the rest of it goes to local organizations that help street kids (food, education, etc.) A huge perk is that the guides are experienced, passionate travelers that have settled in for a few months to help. And it's cheap: 36+ hours of hiking = $45/ person, everything included.
