Secrets from 1,000 Days of Travel, Part 2: I'm Awesome & You Make It Better

Let's start this edition off with some common ground.

(start sarcasm)

We can all agree that I'm awesome. And we can also agree that Bessie is awesome. Together, we are a veritable awesome explosion. It's as if we have put two awesome things together, like bacon and ice cream. I am Bacon and Bessie is ice cream, so together that makes us Bacon Cream. And we can all agree that Bacon Cream would be nothing short of amazing awesomeness.

(end sarcasm)

Of course, we are not without our flaws and spending exorbitant amounts of time together really brings those to light pretty quickly. In this video, we find out what's the hardest thing about traveling with me all the time and how my independent personality is really faring with spending all this time virtually attached to my wife.

November 01, 2010 Hethir: Your last two videos have been so cute. We are two months in on a year around the world and even though we have been together 14 years, are learning so much more about each other. I relate with you Bessie, my husband was getting on me about every bit of spending but then we created "play accounts" which was money we budgeted that we were each able to spend without a word from the other. But traveling with 38L bags as our homes does not allow much shopping... at all. Looking forwards to the next 1,000 days :)

November 01, 2010 Bessie: Congrats on getting started - I think that's the hardest part! 14 years is a long time, but I believe that you're learning a lot about each other. Traveling puts you in so many different situations you have never encountered before. The "play accounts" is a great idea - we got in the habit of taking photos of things instead of buying them. It sometimes means sneaking photos in markets, but they fit much better in our packs. :)

Hearing you talk about traveling together reminds me of a quote that I love that says, "Shared joy is a double joy; shared sorrow is half a sorrow". Even when you are fiercely independent (I have no idea where he got that! LOL), life is so much better when it is shared with someone you love.
