Green Buenos Aires

Feelin' normal
Buenos Aires is a big, hectic city. Think of it as the New York of South America. You can do anything at just about any time of day and the options are amazing. With all the activity going on in the city, though, you think that would drive people crazy. There needs to be a place to relax. New York, for instance, has Central park. Buenos Aires, surprisingly, has a series of parks.Feelin' normal
In one area of town (near Palermo), you can find about 6 parks all about 5 blocks by 5 blocks in size, plus a zoo. The zoo smell wafts over into the parks sometimes (mmm...elephant dung) so there's that extra wild ambience added to it.
Ok, first, yes, it is a large city. To get to the parks, you have to cross the street. I mean, it's only 7 lanes of one-way traffic.

This is where we go running the most as it is the closest park to us. You think running in a city would suck, but with earthy trails like this, it's pretty awesome.

Nothing says Japan like Buenos Aires. It's a nice relaxing place, but to be honest, I don't know if there are any Japanese people living in Buenos Aires. Chinese and Koreans, yes, but I haven't seen many Japanese. There is sushi, so maybe I need to look there.
As a side note, the guys below are in the Japanese Gardens talking and sipping mate. I could write a lot about mate, but it's suffice to say it's a ritual here that is like drinking tea.

If you want a quiet place to do your fishing, this is it. There are no boats on the water and the only thing disturbing the water is your fisshing line.

Ok, the real Porteño would respond with a huge list of other green places in the city. This is true; there are more than I can fit in this place. I'm just glad that Buenos Aires got this one right: we all need a reminder that there's a world outside the city.

I think Max & Jax would totally dig it too - those cats seem to have it made.
They also hang out in the cemetery, too. So, she has two cat watching options!
"Chinese and Koreans, yes, but I haven't seen many Japanese. There is sushi, so maybe I need to look there."
It has been my experience that in any other country in the world other than Japan, Sushi places are run by Koreans, so you probably won't find Japanese there either.
Pretty pictures.
Love the botanical gardens. Japanese gardens seem to be a worldwide phenomenon....even if they are constructed by Argentinians, Italians, Canadians, Americans, etc. Heck, we even have a beautiful one in Hyde Park...on an island in the lagoon beside the Museum of Science and Industry! Thanks for sharing. Must admit photos of nature trump photos of beer bottles for me!!
Hi! I'm new here. I just found your blog. I'm from Argentina. I just wanted to tell you: that photos that you put about the Japanese Garden are wrong. That are the surrounding areas of the Japanese Garden. The garden is near there. You can see photos here: http://www.jardinjapones.org.ar/
I'll continue checking your blog!!
You mean we didn't actually see the Japanese Garden? That's disappointing. Well, I guess we'll just have to come back to Buenos Aires, then!
How funny! We were going off of a tourist map we had. These pictures do look different than what we saw. We must have been close. I like Kyle's idea of coming back! :) Someday!!
my roomate would be in heaven in the botanical gardens!! not because of the plants...flowers...or trees, but because of the cats, she is obsessed!
